Aadhaar Rules for All Age Groups (Simple Format)
Children (0–5 years)
- Aadhaar can be issued without biometric data (no fingerprints/iris) for children below 5.
- Only photo + demographic details (name, DOB, address, parent linkage) are collected.
- This Aadhaar must be updated with biometrics later when age 5 is reached.
Children / Minors (5–17 years)
- When a child turns 5, they must get full biometrics (photo + fingerprints + iris)
- This first mandatory biometric update is treated like a new enrolment but keeps the same Aadhaar number.
- When they turn 15, they must get biometrics updated again to capture adult-level biometric data.
- Both biometric updates are free of cost if done within the age windows (MBU 5–7 and 15–17).
Adults (18+ years)
- Adults must enroll with full biometrics (photo, fingerprints, iris) for the initial Aadhaar.
- If there are changes to address / name / mobile / DOB, updates can be done online or offline.
- Biometric updates for adults are not mandatory but recommended if details change significantly (e.g., worn fingerprints).
Senior Citizens
- Seniors continue to use Aadhaar as identity proof normally.
- If fingerprints become worn out due to age, UIDAI may support alternate verification processes during authentication.
- Biometric updates can be provided if needed to maintain correct records.
